I offer free USPS First Class Mail shipping to domestic US customers on all orders.
You may choose to upgrade your shipping to Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express for faster delivery. I ship international orders through the United States Postal Service.
All orders are shipped the day the order is received if before 3pm EST!
Silk is a completely organic fiber, and is more durable than most people realize. I hand wash silk and chiffon scarves after the heat set process, in cold water with a mild detergent and using my fingers lightly massage the silk, then rinse in lukewarm water several times until the soapy water is clear. You can do the same.
If you got a stain on silk then the key to removing stains is to not scrub the silk as this can stress the top layer of the fibers causing a bruise. Instead, add generous amount of mild detergent on the area, then use your fingers to massage the soap into the stain. Rinse and repeat. If the stain is still there, invest in a professional textile detergent called 'Synthropol' and try again, it will help.
After washing, simply wrap your silk flat into a bath towel and gently press to absorb the water, then you can either hang it to dry or immediately begin pressing it while it is still damp. Use the silk setting on your iron and spread a thin cotton sheet on silk before begin to iron, just to be safe. Regarding the items such as large wall hangings, best is to leave it to the professional dry cleaners.
Please use your NSFA silk items freely, without fear, caring for them similarly to your gentle wash garments.
Custom Design Process
My Custom Made to Order Process
My favorite request is to start from scratch with a brand new design made especially for you or your client!
After you contact me, I will begin asking you lots of questions. Next, I will design and sketch the ideas we have discussed and send you a digital photo for your approval. Once approved, and your 50% down payment has been received, I will create your piece! (I will invoice you via email to make paying online fast and easy for you.)
Generally speaking, the entire design to completion process usually requires at least four weeks, depending upon the complexity of the design and how quickly the approval process goes. I will tell you my own availability schedule during our first conversation so that you can anticipate when you will have a finished piece.
Design fees are negotiated on a case by case basis and vary depending upon the nature of the project. I prefer to build them into my pricing for custom items. Also, unless you negotiate a premium rate for ownership of the design, I reserve the right to paint and resell the design I create for you. Payment in full is due prior to shipping/installation.
Custom designed scarves are a fantastic gift. For individual items, I am willing to customize anything that is already in stock. Adding an additional hand-painted line of type or a special commemorative date to an existing scarf is possible, and I have done this on several occasions with very pleasing results. Please use this form to inquire. Because of the design time involved, I do not typically create single one of a kind scarves on commission.
Packaging and Ironing
All of my scarf products are gently folded into tissue paper and shipped in a custom box to help reduce the amount of wrinkling that will occur during shipping.
All Silk Gallery Wrapped Artwork, they will be wrapped in bubble wrap then packed in a cardboard box little bigger than the art piece and mailed via Unite Postal Service.
All large silk artwork, which are not gallery wrapped, will be packed in a carboard tube for mailing, and all the smaller art pieces will be carefully wrapped in tissue, then put in a custom box for mailing.
All silk can be ironed on the wool/silk setting of your home iron using steam. For best results, gently iron your scarf on the wrong side with a cotton sheet on top, just to be safe.
Hanging and Installations
All my Silk Fine Art are either installed as a gallery wrap on canvas with a wire attached to the back for easy hanging on a hook on the wall or I attach a magnetic frame on top and bottom edge with a string attached for easy hanging and easy transporting and mailing.
